Prevacid Information

Prevacid is designed to inhibit the acid formation in the stomach. This medicine prevents damage to the esophagus or stomach in people with ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

It may take a few days of treatment before your stomach pain starts to ease. You should consult with your doctor if it does not happen, or if you start feeling worse.

You may also try to take antacids in order to relieve pain occasionally, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Take Prevacid orally. Do not break or chew the capsule, ingest it as a whole. Drink enough liquid with it. Read the instructions on the leaflet.

Lansoprazole will provide you with the best result if you take it on empty stomach, an hour or a half of an hour before meal. Never exceed the dosage you are prescribed for.

If you are not comfortable with ingesting the capsule, you may open it and pour the content on the spoon with cottage cheese, yogurt, strained pears, applesauce or Ensure pudding. However, do not crush it into the food and do not chew prepared content. You should take this dose right away and drink water then.

Prevacid Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Prevacid, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once.

Keep Prevacid safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets. Do not use after the expiration date.

Make sure to inform your doctor if you have an unusual or allergic reaction to Lansoprazole, other medicines, dyes, foods, or preservatives, or if you experience liver disease.

Consult with your health care provider in case you are pregnant or have plans for pregnancy, or if you are breast-feeding.

This medicine may interact with ampicillin, ketoconazole, digoxin, delavirdine, theophylline, itraconazole, bisacodyl, iron salts, voriconazole, fluvoxamine, sucralfate.

Do not forget to inform your doctor about all the preparations you take, even about non-prescription drugs, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. You should also tell your health care provider if you use alcohol or drinks with caffeine, illegal drugs, or if you are a smoker. Make sure to consult with your health care provider before you quit or begin any kind of therapy.

Children have to be treated with this medicine extremely cautiously. Consult with your health care provider about this.

Prevacid Side Effects

Such side effects as diarrhea or constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, which may be caused by Lansoprazole do not usually need the medical attention. However, talk to your doctor if they bother you too much.

You should immediately inform you doctor in case you have dark yellow or brown urine, unusual skin rash, blistering, or peeling; fever or sore throat; unusual bleeding or bruising; vomiting; yellowing of the eyes or skin.
