Benadryl Information

Benadryl is designed in order to inhibit the histamine effects. This medicine treats runny nose; itching, watery eyes; sneezing; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of the common cold and allergies. Benadryl is an antihistamine. This preparation may also be prescribed in order to

treat motion sickness, to suppress coughs, to treat mild forms of Parkinson's disease, to provide you a normal sleep, and for other health states.

Benadryl has to be taken with water, with or without food.

If you are taking this medicine in order to improve your sleep, take your dose a half of an hour before the bedtime.

If you use Benadryl to treat a motion sickness, a dose has to be taken a half of an hour before motion, then with meals and at bedtime for the duration of exposure.

You should measure the liquid forms of Benadryl with a dose-measuring spoon in order to ensure you take the amount you need. You may ask your pharmacist how you can get this spoon.

The maximum dosage of Benadryl you may take within the 24-hour period is 300 mg. Never exceed the prescribed dosage!

Benadryl Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Benadryl, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Benadryl safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider! In particular, inform your doctor in case you are treating with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the last 2 weeks. These medicines, taken with Benadryl, can lead to very dangerous side effects! Talk to your pharmacist before taking other over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, or insomnia preparations. These medicines may contain components similar to ingredients in Benadryl, which can cause an overdose. Talk to your doctor before starting any therapy!

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have a stomach ulcer; an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism); glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye; asthma; an enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating; or hypertension or any type of heart problems.

You may need a specific adjustment if you have any of these conditions.

Talk to your health care provider in case of pregnancy or breast-feeding. Do not start the therapy without seeing your doctor!

Patients over 60 years of age may need a lower dosage, as they are more likely to experience side effects.

While treating with this preparation, follow the advices of your health care specialist.

Benadryl Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. Alcohol may add to the dizziness and sleepiness, caused by this preparation. Avoid drinking alcohol while treating with Benadryl.

Discontinue the therapy and talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you have an allergic reaction (closing of the throat; breathing discomfort; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives).

Do not stop taking Benadryl and inform your doctor if you have headache; dry mouth; difficulty urinating or an enlarged prostate; sleepiness, fatigue, or vertigo.

Consult with your health care specialist in case you experience any disturbing side effects.
