Ampicillin Information

Ampicillin treats such types of infections as tonsillitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, pneumonia, bronchitis, and infections of the intestines (e.g., salmonella).

Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor. Take Ampicillin with a glass of water on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. The intervals between the doses have to be equal. Remember the time you have to take your dose.

Swallow the entire capsule. Do not break, chew, open, or crush it. Do not discontinue the therapy even if you feel better. Complete the prescribed therapy.

Ampicillin Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Ampicillin, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed your doses. Seek emergency medical attention in case of overdose. The symptoms of overdose are pain or twitching, spasms or weakness, pain in the fingers or toes, loss of feeling in the fingers or toes, seizures, confusion, coma, agitation, and in the fingers or toes.

Keep Ampicillin safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store the pills and capsules at room temperature. Store the suspension in the refrigerator so you will be able to use it longer. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to warn the doctor about the allergy to this medicine or other penicillin agent in case you have ever experienced it.

Inform your health care provider about all the medications, herbs or supplements you take. Inform a doctor about all your health states, including kidney disease, stomach or intestinal disease, or infectious mononucleosis. It may happen you may not be treated with this medicine.

Inform your health care provider if you take allopurinol, clavulanic acid, certain antibiotics given by injection, entacapone, female hormones, including contraceptive or birth control pills methotrexate, probenecid.

Avoid drinking alcohol during the therapy, as it may lead to stomach irritation.

Ampicillin Side Effects

Your urine tests may give false positive results while you are going thru the Ampicillin therapy if you are a diabetic.

Pregnancy: This medication is considered to be safe for pregnant patients. However, consult with your health care provider on this matter. Do not start the therapy until your doctor tells you to do so. Do not use Ampicillin when you breast feed without consultation with your doctor.

Ampicillin may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. You should use a second method of birth control in order to prevent pregnancy.

Discontinue the therapy and seek immediate medical attention in case of the following side effects: seizures; unusual bleeding or bruising; an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; hives; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; rash; fainting; or closing of your throat); severe watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

Do not stop the therapy and check with your health care provider in case of itching of the vagina (vaginal yeast infection); diarrhea, mild nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; black, "hairy" tongue, sore mouth or tongue; white patches on the tongue.
