Flagyl ER Information

Metronidazole extended-release pills may be prescribed to heal the bacterial vaginosis (infection of the vagina), and some other kinds of infections.

Read the leaflet carefully. Follow the instructions of your doctor.

Metronidazole should be taken orally on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after the meal. Swallow the whole pills with water.

Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy.

Flagyl Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Flagyl, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once.

Keep Flagyl safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have liver disease; seizures (convulsions); anemia or other blood disorders; disease of the nervous system; or other chronic illness. Also tell your doctor if you may have an allergy to Metronidazole, or other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy!

Talk to your health care provider before you start or stop any therapy.

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Children have to be treated with an extreme caution. Talk to your doctor on this matter.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. Talk to your health care specialist if you have plans for pregnancy.

Flagyl Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: numbness, tingling, pain or weakness in the hands or feet; clumsiness, staggers, or unsteadiness; skin rash, itching; vomiting; severe abdominal pain; tiredness or weakness; irritation or discharge from the vagina; fever or chills, sore throat; seizures (convulsions).

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: diarrhea; appetite loss, food tasting unusual (or like metal); mild stomach pain or cramps; dark brown or reddish urine; dry mouth; nausea; headache.

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to Metronidazole. Sit up or stand slowly to avoid fainting spells and staggers, especially in the morning, and especially if you are an older patient.

Check your blood regularly while going thru the therapy.

Do not use alcohol while treating with this medicine. It may add to the side effects.

If you have a feeling of a dry mouth, try to drink plenty of water and to chew sugarless gum in order to ease this feeling. You may also suck a hard candy.

If you need to heal the sex organs infections, you should be aware, that you partner may also require medical care. Use condoms in order to avoid reinfection before you and your partner get well.

Make sure to inform a doctor about Flagyl usage before receiving any medical or dental care (e.g., surgery, etc.)

Inform your health care provider in case you do not notice betterment in 2 or 3 days.
