It may take 4 weeks or longer before you notice a significant betterment.

Take Celexa orally with or without meal. Swallow with water.

Celexa Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Celexa, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once.

Keep Celexa safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep Citalopram out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have mania; suicidal thoughts or a previous suicide attempt; liver disease; diabetes; kidney disease; heart disease; seizures (convulsions); or if you receive electroconvulsive therapy. Tell your doctor if you have an allergy to Citalopram, the related medicine EsCitalopram, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider!

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Do not treat yourself for coughs, colds, or allergies without talking to your doctor. Some components in your medicine may increase possible side effects.

Avoid using grapefruit products or kava while going thru the therapy.

Celexa Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. Do not stand or sit up quickly to avoid dizzy or fainting spells. Avoid alcohol usage.

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: dizziness or lightheadedness; skin rash, itching (hives); anxiety, agitation, or restlessness, especially within the first week of the therapy or when doses are changed; confusion; fast talking and excited feelings; vomiting; uncontrolled actions; or suicidal thoughts.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your

health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: dry mouth; indigestion, nausea; weight changes; difficulty sleeping; blurred vision; headache; diarrhea; sleepiness; fever; increased sweating; sexual difficulties (decreased sexual ability or desire); frequent urination; tremor (shaking); taste alterations; or changes in appetite.

Medical tests may be required during the Celexa therapy. Keep all the appointments; this will help to monitor your health condition. You also require closer monitoring at the start of the therapy and any time your dosage changes.

Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy. In case treating with Celexa has to be finished, your health care provider should instruct you how to decrease your dosage over a few days to a week.

Patients and their families should carefully watch out for worsening depression or thoughts of suicide. They should also consult a doctor in case of sudden or severe changes in feelings such as feeling anxious, agitated, panicky, irritable, hostile, aggressive, impulsive, severely restless, overly excited and hyperactive, or not being able to sleep. If this happens, especially at the beginning of antidepressant treatment or after a change in dose, call your health care specialist.

Inform your doctor about this therapy before receiving any medical care.

If you experience dry mouth, try to drink plenty of water and to chew sugarless gum in order to ease this feeling. You may also suck a hard candy.
