Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. This medicine promotes the removal of the fluid from the body.

Hydrochlorothiazide Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Hydrochlorothiazide, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once.

Keep Hydrochlorothiazide safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Short-term storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to Hydrochlorothiazide. This medicine may cause vertigo, blurred vision, fainting or light-headedness. These side effects may be enlarged by the hot weather, fever, exercises or alcohol usage. Avoid drinking alcohol. Sit up or stand slowly to avoid side effects, especially in the morning.

Seek medical attention immediately in case of the severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; itching; difficulty breathing); decreased urination; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; vomiting; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; confusion; dark urine; increased thirst; muscle pain or cramps; numbness or tingling; red, blistered, swollen, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent staggers; yellowing of the eyes or skin; swelling, warmth, joint pain, or redness (especially of the big toe joint); severe or persistent nausea or stomach pain; shortness of breath; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual sleepiness, tiredness, restlessness, or weakness; unusually dry mouth; mental or mood changes.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: diarrhea; dizziness; temporary blurred vision; light-headedness (especially when sitting up or standing); loss of appetite; constipation; nausea.

You should not be treating with this medicine in case you have an allergy to any components in this medicine, if you are already taking dofetilide or ketanserin, or if you are not able to urinate. Consult with your doctor then.

Hydrochlorothiazide may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you begin the therapy. Take your dose before 6 P.M. so you will not be disturbed by this need at night time.

Make sure you inform a doctor about the Hydrochlorothiazide therapy before you receive any medical or dental care.

You may be prescribed by your health care provider to take a potassium supplement. Strictly follow all the instructions and do not begin any other therapy without having talked to your doctor first!

Patients may become more sensitive to sunburn while going thru the therapy. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing in case you cannot avoid being outside for prolonged period of time. Try to avoid the sun, sunlamps, and tanning booths.

You may require having some medical tests done in order to monitor your health states. In particular, you may need to have kidney function, blood pressure, and electrolyte levels tests. Make sure you keep all the tests results and the appointments of your health care provider.

Diabetes patients should monitor the blood sugar levels cautiously. Consult with your health care provider if you have diabetes.

This medicine may increase the level of sugar in your blood. Consult with your doctor as soon as possible in case you notice such signs of blood sugar increase and feel drowsy, thirsty, or confused. High blood sugar can also make you breathe faster, flush, or have a fruit-like breath odor.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding: Hydrochlorothiazide may cause harm to the unborn baby! Talk to your health care provider immediately in case of pregnancy. This medicine is detected to extract into the breast milk. The risks and benefits of taking this medication during the breast-feeding period have to be closely discussed with your health care provider.

Do not share Hydrochlorothiazide with others, for whom it's not prescribed.
