Lipitor Information

Lipitor is designed to decrease the amount of the cholesterol in the body. This medicine is in class of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors ('statins'). It may also be prescribed in order to decrease the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other complications in certain group of patients (e.g., patients with type 2 diabetes or under the risk of heart disease).

Generic Atorvastatin tablets are not yet available.

Cholesterol-lowering medicines should be used in combination with a low fat and cholesterol diet. You may also need to change your lifestyle in order to get the best results.

Lipitor has to be taken orally, with or without food. Take it with water. You make take your dose at any time of the day. However, you should take it at regular intervals.

Lipitor Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Atorvastatin, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage!

Keep Lipitor safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Alcohol usage, drinking grapefruit juice, birth control pills may interact with this medicine as well. Talk to your doctor about this.

Make sure you inform your health care provider in case you have severe injury; infection; an alcohol problem; blood salt imbalance; low blood pressure; seizures (convulsions); allergic reaction to Atorvastatin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives; liver disease; any hormone disorder (e.g., diabetes, under-active thyroid); recent surgery; kidney disease; muscle disorder.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. Talk to your health care specialist if you have plans for pregnancy.

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Consult with your doctor before stopping or starting any therapy.

Children should be treated cautiously. Consult with your doctor on this matter. Lipitor has been used for children of 10 years of age.

Lipitor Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: muscle pain, tenderness, cramps, or weakness; unusual tiredness or weakness; decreased urination, difficulty passing urine; skin rash, itching; peeling, redness, blistering or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; fever; yellowing of the skin or eyes; dark yellow or brown urine.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: headache; stomach upset or pain; joint pain; diarrhea; gas; tiredness; nausea or vomiting.

You may require having some medical tests done in order to monitor your health states. Visit your doctor regularly.

This medicine may cause harm to the fetus; it should not be used during the pregnancy or breast-feeding period. Consult with your health care provider on this matter.

Inform a doctor that you are treating with this medicine before receiving any medical or dental care. Ask your health care provider any questions you may have.
