Pravachol Information

Pravachol is designed in order to inhibit the cholesterol production. This medicine also may decrease the risk of a heart disease by lowering the blood cholesterol. However, this is not a cure. Pravastatin is designed for patients, whose level of cholesterol is not controlled by a special diet. This is just a part of the cholesterol-lowering program. You should also talk to your doctor about the exercising program and diet.

Pravachol has to be taken orally, with or without food. Swallow the pill with water. Usually Pravastatin has to be taken once per day. Remember the exact time you should take your doses.

Pravachol Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Pravachol, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Pravachol safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider! In particular, tell your doctor if you are using Cyclosporine, herbal medicines, Orlistat, alcohol-containing beverages, medicines to lower cholesterol or triglycerides (e.g., Cholestyramine, Niacin), Itraconazole.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have infection; severe injury; muscle disorder or condition; liver disease; kidney disease; any hormone disorder (such as diabetes, under-active thyroid); blood salt imbalance; an alcohol problem; low blood pressure; seizures (convulsions); recent surgery.

Inform your health care specialist if you are allergic to Pravastatin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Consult with your health care specialist regarding the use in children, they have to be treated extremely cautiously!

Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. There is a potential for serious side effects to a fetus or to an infant. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.

Talk to your health care provider before you start or stop any therapy.

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Pravachol Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: yellowing of the skin or eyes; muscle pain, tenderness, cramps, or weakness; skin rash, itching; redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; unusual tiredness or weakness; decreased urination, difficulty passing urine; fever; dark yellow or brown urine.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: flu-like symptoms; dizziness; or headache.

Inform your doctor right away in case you experience tenderness, or weakness (especially with fever and tiredness), or muscle pain.

You may need to have a blood check done in order to make sure your liver function is not affected by the medicine.

You should visit your health care specialist regularly in order to monitor your condition.

Make sure you inform a doctor about the Pravastatin therapy before receiving any medical or dental care.
