Tricor Information
This medicine is a lipid lowering agent.
If you also use a bile acid sequestrant medicine (e.g., Colestyramine,Clestipol), you should take Tricor at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after the bile acid sequestrant.
Fenofibrate has to be taken orally, with or without food. Take this product at the same time each day in order to get the maximal result.
It may take a several weeks before you notice betterment.
Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy.
Tricor Safety Information
In case of missing a dose of Fenofibrate, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!
Keep Fenofibrate safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container. Short-term storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is possible. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.
You should not be using this medicine if you have an allergy to any component in it.
Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider!
You may require a special doctor’s attention if you are treating with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (e.g., Atorvastatin), "blood thinners" (e.g., Warfarin), Probenecid, high-dose niacin (1 gram or more per day), medicine for diabetes (e.g., Glyburide), Cyclosporine, beta-blockers (e.g., Metoprolol), thiazide diuretics (e.g., Hydrochlorothiazide), or estrogens.
Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have diabetes, allergies, muscle problems, low thyroid levels. You should not be using this product in case you have a history of primary biliary cirrhosis, gallbladder problems, kidney or liver disease.
You may need to have some medical tests done in order to monitor your condition, such as lipid levels, blood counts, creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels, and liver function tests. Keep all the appointments while going thru the therapy.
Tricor Side Effects
Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. Do not stand or sit up quickly in order to avoid staggers or fainting spells. You should not drink alcohol while treating with this medicine.
The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: constipation, runny nose, vertigo, nausea.
You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: joint pain; sore throat, or fever; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; wheezing; chest pain; unusual bruising or bleeding; abdominal pain; coughing; tiredness.
Consult with your doctor immediately in case of an allergy (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing).
Avoid exposure to the sun. Wear protective clothes, use a sunscreen, and wear sunglasses even when it’s cloudy. Avoid tanning booths and beds, do not use sun lamps.
Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. It’s not known whether this medicine extracts into the breast-milk. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.
Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the side effects.
