This medicine also may decrease the risk of a heart disease by lowering the blood cholesterol. Simvastatin is designed for patients, whose level of cholesterol is not controlled by a special diet.

This is just a part of the cholesterol-lowering program. You should also talk to your doctor about the exercising program and diet.

Avoid eating grapefruit and drinking grapefruit juice while going thru the therapy.

Zocor has to be taken orally, with water. You may take it with or without food. Do not drink grapefruit juice while treating with this medicine.

If you take your dose once per day, you should take it in the evening.

Zocor Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Zocor, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Simvastatin safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 5-30 degrees C (41-86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have any hormone disorder (such as diabetes, under-active thyroid); severe injury; recent surgery; muscle disorder or condition; blood salt imbalance; an alcohol problem; low blood pressure; seizures (convulsions); infection; liver disease; or kidney disease.

Make sure you tell your health care specialist if you have allergy to this medicine , other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. There is a potential for serious side effects to a fetus or to an infant. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider! Certain preparations may also increase the risk of muscle side effects. Talk to your doctor on this matter.

Consult with your health care specialist regarding the use in children; they have to be treated extremely cautiously!

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Zocor Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: fever; unusual tiredness or weakness; decreased urination, difficulty passing urine; redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; skin rash, itching; yellowing of the skin or eyes; muscle pain, tenderness, cramps, or weakness; dark yellow or brown urine.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: headache; upset stomach, indigestion, gas; constipation; heartburn.

Inform your doctor right away in case you experience muscle tenderness, or weakness (especially with fever and tiredness), or muscle pain.

You may need to have a blood check done in order to make sure your liver function is not affected by the medicine. You should visit your health care specialist regularly in order to monitor your progress.

Make sure you inform a doctor about the Simvastatin therapy before receiving any medical or dental care.
