Actonel Information
Actonel is designed to treat and to prevent osteoporosis, which develops after the menopause. This medicine may also be prescribed in order to treat Paget's disease, steroid-induced osteoporosis, and other health states.
Strictly follow the instructions of your health care provider.
This medicine should be taken in the morning, with 6 to 8 ounces of plain water. Take Risedronate first thing after you wake up in the morning, at least 30 minutes before drinking, eating, or taking any other medicines. Actonel is effective only when you take it on an empty stomach. Do not crash or chew the tablet, swallow whole. Do not lie down at least a half of an hour after you take this medicine.
Do not take any other preparations for a half of an hour after you have taken Actonel. Calcium supplements, vitamins, iron supplements, or antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum may interfere with the absorption of Risedronate.
Actonel Safety Information
In case of missing a dose of Risedronate, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!
Keep Actonel safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in compactly closed container. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.
Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have any esophagus problems (such as narrowing, reflux disease, blockage, heartburn, severe irritation); a history of stomach or bowel problems (such as inflammation, ulcer); mood or mental problems; an infection; allergies; cancer; kidney problems; low blood vitamin D levels; calcium metabolism problems; difficult or painful swallowing; blood clotting problems; or anemia.
Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Make sure to consult with your health care provider before taking medicines, contain aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen. Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider!
You may require a dosage adjustment if you are treating with corticosteroids (such Prednisone).
Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. It’s not known whether this medicine extracts into the breast-milk. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.
You should not be treating with this preparation in case you have severe kidney problems; low blood calcium levels; or if you are unable to stand or sit upright for at least a half of an hour.
Tell you doctor you use Risedronate in case you are going to receive any dental care, or if you have poor dental hygiene.
You should not be treating with this medicine in case you have an allergy to any component in Risedronate.
You may require to have certain medical tests done, in order to monitor your progress closely. Keep all the appointments, while going thru the therapy.
Inform a doctor about the Actonel therapy before receiving any medical or dental care! If you are not able to remain in a sitting or standing position for at least a half of an hour, consult with your doctor. You may not be able to treat with this medicine.
Actonel Side Effects
The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: stomach pain, joint pain, nausea, diarrhea, fever, chills, or headache.
You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: pain or swelling in the gum, loosening of teeth, painful swallowing, severe heartburn, severe joint pain, muscle pain, numbness or feeling of heaviness in the jaw. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you have an allergic reaction (closing of the throat; breathing discomfort; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives; rash, itching; severe staggers).
Talk to your health care specialist about the special diet and exercising program. These methods may also help you to save the health of your bones. Follow the instruction of you doctor in order to take a proper amount of the calcium and vitamin D.
Do not share your medicine with others, for whom it has not been prescribed.
