Adalat Information

Adalat decreases high blood pressure (hypertension) and heals chest pain (angina). This preparation may also be prescribed by your doctor for other health states.

Read the leaflet carefully. Follow the instructions of your doctor.

Adalat pills have to be swallowed without crushing or chewing, with a glass of water. Adalat CC should be taken on an empty stomach. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit while going thru the treatment. It may seriously affect your therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy.

Adalat Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Nifedipine, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage! In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately.

Keep Adalat safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature. Keep tablets out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

In case of pregnancy talk to your health care provider as soon as possible. It's not known whether this medicine may cause harm to the fetus. Talk to your health care specialist if you have plans for pregnancy, or in case you are breast-feeding. Nifedipine extracts into the breast milk.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have liver or kidney disease; disease of the heart or blood vessels (e.g., aortic stenosis, heart failure, coronary artery disease, low blood pressure, or sick sinus syndrome).

Adalat Side Effects

Older patients are more likely to experience the side effects. You may need a lower dose of this preparation.

Sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. You may become dizzy when changing positions.

Avoid alcohol usage during the therapy. It may increase the side effects.

Stop the therapy and contact a doctor immediately in case of the following side effects: severe dizziness or fainting; unusually fast or slow heartbeats; psychosis; swelling of the legs or ankles; yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice); an allergy (closing of the throat; difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives)

Do not stop taking Nifedipine and inform your doctor if you have insomnia; increased urination; headache, fatigue, or tiredness; vivid or abnormal dreams; flushing; nausea or constipation.

Inform your health care provider in case of any side effects, listed here or not.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy!

Never share your medication with those, for whom it has not been prescribed by the doctor!

Nifedipine is available with a prescription under the following brand names:

Adalat, Adalat CC, Procardia, and Procardia XL. Other formulas may also be available. Consult woth your health care provider on any questions you may have.

The Procardia XL tablet shell may found in the stool. Do not worry. The tablet shell is designed to be eliminated in the stool.
