Vytorin Information

Vytorin is a preparation, combining 2 medicines: Ezetimibe and Simvastatin. They are designed in order to low the levels of cholesterol. Ezetimibe decreases the amount of cholesterol, absorbed from your diet. Simvastatin inhibits the cholesterol production.

This preparation is not a cure for high levels of cholesterol. However, it’s helpful in controlling the cholesterol level.

Use this medicine in combination with a low-fat diet, prescribed by your doctor. Check the levels of cholesterol regularly. Vytorin may also be prescribed by your doctor for other health states.

Read the leaflet carefully. Follow the instructions of your doctor.

You may take Vytorin on an empty stomach with or without food. Take your dose in the evening, unless your health care provider tells you otherwise.

Do not drink large amounts of grapefruit juice while going thru the treatment (more than 1 quart per day). Do not eat too much of grapefruit. In case you are treating with Bile Acid Sequestrant : you should take this medicine 2 hours before or at least 4 hours after the Bile Acid Sequestrant (e.g., Colestipol, Cholestyramine, or Colesevelam).

Vytorin Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Vytorin, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Vytorin safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider!

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have family history of muscle problems; uncontrolled seizures; serious metabolic, endocrine, or electrolyte problems; kidney problems; muscle problems when you have been treating with any "statin" or "fibrate"; severe infection; low blood pressure. Talk to your doctor in case you will have a surgery in a while.

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

You should not be treated with this preparation in case you have a history of liver problems or ongoing, abnormal liver function.

Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy. It may take a few weeks before you notice significant improvement.

You should not be taking this preparation if you have an allergy to any of its components.

Certain medical tests, such as liver function tests, blood cholesterol levels, or muscle tests may be done during the treatment. This way your doctor will be able to monitor your condition. Keep all the appointments and test results.

Inform a doctor about the therapy before receiving any medical or dental care.

Large amounts of Vytorin may be harmful to your muscles. Harm may also be caused, when this preparation is used in combination with certain medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you experience fever, pain or weakness.

Do not use this preparation during the pregnancy. The extraction into the breast milk has not been researched. Consult with your health care specialist in case of pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you have plans for the pregnancy. You should not be using this medication during the pregnancy. Use an effective birth control method if you may become pregnant. Do not use if you are breast-feeding.

Vytorin Side Effects

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: tiredness, headache.

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: tenderness, weakness; change in the amount of urine; ongoing nausea or vomiting; muscle aches, pain; fever; dark urine; blurred vision or vision changes; yellowing of skin or eyes; stomach pain. Contact your health care provider as soon as possible if you develop an allergy (itching, swelling, staggers, trouble breathing, and rash).

Contact your doctor in case you notice any side effects, listed here or not.

Do not share your medicine with others, for whom it has not been prescribed.

In order to achieve the maximal results, use this preparation along with exercises; a low-cholesterol, or low-fat diet, advised by your doctor.
