Bupropion Information

This medicine may be prescribed as a therapy, treating episodes of depression in patients with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of mania, episodes of depression, and other abnormal moods) and to heal attention deficit disorder (ADHD; more difficulty focusing, remaining still or quiet than other people who are the same age, and controlling actions).

Bupropion belongs to the class of antidepressants. Its working mechanism induces certain kinds of brain activity.

Bupropion is available in tablets and a sustained-release or extended-release (long-acting) tablets that have to be taken orally.

If you use regular tablet (Wellbutrin), it should be taken three or four times per day, with at least 6 hours intervals.

The sustained-release tablet (Wellbutrin SR, Zyban) is usually taken twice per day, with at least 8 hours interval.

The extended-release tablet (Wellbutrin XL) is usually taken once per day in the morning. In case you use the extended-release tablet, you may notice something that looks like a tablet in your stool. Do not worry. This is just the empty tablet shell.

Swallow the sustained-release and extended-release tablets whole; do not chew or crush them.

If you use this medicine in order to heal seasonal affective disorder, you should start taking it at the beginning of the autumn, and stopping at the spring time. It should be taken in the morning. You may need to start and stop it gradually.

It may take a few weeks before you notice a significant improvement. Do not discontinue the therapy even if you start feeling better. Do not start or stop any therapy without having consulted with a doctor.

Bupropion Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Bupropion, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. In case of overdose seek the immediate medical care

Keep Bupropion safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in tightly closed container. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets. Do not use after the expiration date.

Inform your health care specialist in case you have an allergy to this or any other medicines.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications, herbal products or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy. In particular, talk top your heath care provider if you use monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar),phenelzine (Nardil), and tranylcypromine (Parnate). You may not be able to treat with Bupropion also if you have recently taken these medications (within the last 2 weeks).

Consult with your doctor if you take any other medicines or supplements! They may seriously influence the therapy!

Make sure you take no more than 1 product with Bupropion in its content at a time in order to prevent serious side effects.

Inform your health care specialist if you have ever had anorexia nervosa (an eating disorder) or bulimia (an eating disorder), or seizures, heart attack; a head injury; a tumour in your brain or spine; high blood pressure; diabetes; or liver, kidney, or heart disease.

Tell your health care provider if you use alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Talk to your health care provider in case of pregnancy, plans for the pregnancy or breast-feeding. You may not be able to take this medicine.

Bupropion Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this preparation. It may cause drowsiness.

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: rash or blisters; hallucinating (seeing things or hearing voices that do not really exist); itching; hoarseness; confusion; seizures; swelling of the face, throat, eyes, hands, tongue, lips, feet, ankles, or lower legs; muscle or joint pain; rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat; irrational fears; hives; difficulty breathing or swallowing; fever; chest pain.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: excessive sweating; drowsiness; uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body; staggers; excitement; constipation; dry mouth; nausea; headache; weight loss; vomiting.

Talk to your health care provider in case of any disturbing side effects. Do not exceed your dosage! If you suspect the overdose, seek the medical care immediately!

Keep all appointments with your doctor, and do not share this medicine with those, for whom it has not been prescribed.

Carry a list with all the medications you take. It may be useful in case of emergencies.
