This medicine is an antidepressant that belongs to the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Prozac influences those chemicals in the brain, which may cause mood disorders. This preparation may also be prescribed by your health care provider for other health states.

Take Prozac at the same time each day. Swallow the whole tablet, do not chew or crush the pill.
It may take about 4 weeks before you notice the significant betterment. Do not discontinue the treatment rapidly! Complete the prescribed therapy.Do not start or stop any therapy without having consulted with a doctor.
If you use this preparation in order to heal the premenstrual dysphoric disorder, the average dose of Fluoxetine is one per day (during your period). You may also start the therapy 14 days before the period.
Prozac Safety Information
In case of missing a dose of Prozac, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Do not take a double dose at once. If you take one dose per week and miss it, you may take the missed dose as soon as you remember to do this. The next dose should be taken a week later. However, skip the missed dose if it’s almost time for the next one.
In case of an overdose seek a medical care immediately.
Keep Prozac safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at a room temperature. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.
Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have diabetes; a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts; seizures or epilepsy; cirrhosis of the liver; bipolar disorder (manic depression); kidney disease.
Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! In particular, simultaneous usage of Prozac with such medications, as pimozide (Orap); thioridazine (Mellaril); or an MAO inhibitor (e.g., tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam) may lead to extremely serious or even fatal cases. You should stop treating with these medicines at least 2 weeks before you start taking Prozac. You may start Mellaril therapy not sooner, then in 5 weeks after you have quitted Fluoxetine.
When you start treating with an antidepressant medication, you may be at the higher risk of suicidal thoughts or actions in case you are under 18years of age. Consult with your health care provider on this matter.
Contact your health care specialist in case of the pregnancy immediately. This medication may cause harm to the fetus. Fluoxetine extracts into the breast-milk. Talk to your doctor if you are breast-feeding, or if you have plans for the pregnancy
Do not use alcohol while going thru the therapy. Avoid using other medicines that make cause drowsiness.
Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine.
Prozac Side Effects
Contact your health care provider immediately in case of the following side effects: a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; mood changes, anxiety, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, severe restlessness, mania (hyperactivity), thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself; seizure (convulsions); agitation, confusion, quicken heartbeat, sweating; seizure (convulsions); tremors, shivering, muscle stiffness or twitching; problems with balance or coordination; a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; or unusual thoughts or behaviour.
Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you have an allergic reaction (closing of the throat; breathing discomfort; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives; skin rash).
The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: insomnia; weight changes; dry mouth, increased sweating; feeling nervous, restless, anxious, or unable to sit still; headache, runny nose, sore throat, flu symptoms; decreased sex drive, difficulty having an orgasm; drowsiness; staggers, weakness; nausea, diarrhea, changes in appetite.
