Trazodone Information
The working mechanism of Trazodone provides you with a mental balance by increasing the amount of serotonin. However, this medicine does not cure the depression. It helps you to gain balance. This medicine may also be prescribed to treat anxiety; schizophrenia (a mental illness); and alcohol abuse; abnormal, uncontrollable movements that may be resulted by the use of some medications. Trazodone may also be prescribed by your health care provider to treat other health states.

Trazodone should be taken orally, with food. Do not forget about your doses and try to take them with a regular interval.
Talk to your health care specialist about eating grapefruit and drinking grapefruit juice while going thru the therapy.
Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice betterment! You should complete the prescribed therapy. It may take 2 weeks or longer before you feel sufficient improvement.
At the start of the therapy your health care provider will enlarge the dosage gradually, not more than once per 3 or 4 days. When you feel better, the dosage may be lower. At the end of the treatment the dosage has to be decreased gradually as well. Do not start or quit the therapy without having consulted with a health care specialist!

In case of missing a dose of Trazodone, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. In case of overdose seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of overdose may be vomiting; changes in heartbeat; painful erection; difficulty breathing; seizures; sleepiness.
Keep Trazodone safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in compactly closed container. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.
Inform your health care provider in case you have an allergy to any component in this treatment, or any medications. Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications, herbal products (especially St. John's wort!)or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy. You should inform your doctor if you have recently taken MAO inhibitors, phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), isocarboxazid (Marplan), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar). You may require close monitoring.
Inform your health care provider if you receive electroshock procedures.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had a heart attack, irregular heart beat; cancer; human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); high blood pressure; low white blood cell count; heart disease; acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Make sure to inform your health care provider if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while going thru the therapy, call your doctor immediately.
Inform the doctor about the Trazodone before receiving any dental or medical treatment.
Tradozone Side Effects
Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to Trazodone. Alcohol may add to the side effects. Talk to your health care provider about the risks of alcohol usage during the therapy. This medicine may also cause staggers, lightheadedness, and fainting. Sit up or stand slowly to avoid them, especially in the morning.
You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: staggers or light-headedness; difficulty breathing or swallowing; fast, or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, sore throat, or other signs of infection; chest pain; swelling of the face, lips, eyes, throat, tongue, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs; decreased coordination; shortness of breath; uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body; painful erection; hives; itching; burning, or tingling in the arms, legs, hands, or feet, numbness; fainting; skin rash; hoarseness.
The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they severe, bothersome or continuous: stomach pain; decreased ability to concentrate or remember; headache or heaviness in head; changes in appetite or weight; dry mouth; nausea; ringing in ears; muscle pain; bad taste in mouth; tired, red, or itchy eyes; confusion; weakness or tiredness; vomiting; blurred vision; constipation; diarrhea; sweating; nightmares; dry mouth.
Inform your doctor about all the unusual side effects you notice.
Trazodone may cause painful, long lasting erections in men. You should talk to your health care provider about the risks and benefits of this preparation. In some cases emergency or surgical treatment has been required and, in some cases the permanent damage was caused.
