Glucophage Information

Metformin works by decreasing the level of blood sugar. This medicine may be used in combination with other preparations.

Metformin has to be taken orally, with a drink of water. Take Glucophage with food. Never exceed the prescribed dosage.

Glucophage Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Glucophage, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Metformi safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Consult with your health care specialist regarding the use in children; they have to be treated extremely cautiously!

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have heart failure that is treated with medications; heart attack; serious infection or injury; polycystic ovaries; hormone changes or problems; liver or kidney disease; thyroid disease; undergoing surgery or certain x-ray procedures with injectable contrast agents. Tell your health care provider in case you become dehydrated easily.

Consult with your doctor if you have an allergy to Metformin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Talk to your doctor if you use alcohol or beverages, containing alcohol.

Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider!

Be careful! Some medications may affect the blood sugar levels. Talk to your health care provider on this matter!

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Glucophage Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: muscle aches or pains; unusual stomach pain or discomfort; unusual weakness, fatigue or discomfort; breathing difficulties or shortness of breath; passing out or fainting; slow or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; severe vomiting or diarrhea.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: nausea; metallic taste in the mouth; decreased appetite; mild stomach pain; gas; weight loss; heartburn.

In combination with certain diabetic medications, Metformin may decrease you blood sugar levels. Consult with your health care specialist right away if you notice irritability, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, anxiety or nervousness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, hunger, pale skin, nausea, fatigue, sweating, palpitations, loss of consciousness, tingling in the fingers, tremors, muscle weakness, blurred vision, cold sensations, uncontrolled yawning, numbness of the mouth, or headache.

Among the signs of a high blood sugar level are dry mouth, flushed dry-skin, dizziness, fruit-like breath odor, frequent passing of urine, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, unusual thirst.

You should visit your health care specialist regularly, while treating with this medicine. You may also require certain medical tests, such as blood sugar check, kidney function test, etc.

You should ask your health care provider to tell you whet to do in case of high or low blood sugar. Monitor the levels of the blood sugar! In order to avoid the side effects make sure you eat plenty of food.

Do not change the dosage of you medicines without your health care professional!

Make sure you tell your doctor that you are treating with this product, before you receive any medical care. You should also tell your health care provider about this therapy id you need x-ray procedure that uses contrast agents.

Consult with your doctor in case of severe diarrhea or vomiting. You may require a dosage adjustment if you are unable to maintain proper fluid intake. Consult with your doctor on this matter.

You should eat or drink something containing sugar at once you notice mild signs of low blood sugar. Contact your doctor right away then. Make sure your family members know that you can choke if you eat or drink when you develop severe signs of low blood sugar, such as unconsciousness. They must get a medical help immediately.

You should wear a medical identification bracelet or chain if you have diabetes. Keep a list with all the preparations you take.
