Accutane Information

This preparation stimulates the renewal of the skin.

Accutane is developed to treat severe nodular acne. It is usually prescribed after other acne medicines or antibiotics have not shown significant results. This preparation may also be prescribed for other health states.

Accutane is a form of vitamin A.

Each prescription of this medicine must be filled within 7 days of the date it was prescribed by the doctor. You may not receive more than a 30-day supply.

Accutane has to be taken with a full glass of water. Swallow the capsule at once. Do not chew or break it. Take Accutane with food or milk. Do not discontinue the treatment even if you notice improvement. Complete the prescribed therapy.

Accutane Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Accutane, skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Accutane safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

You should have a blood check and liver function test in order to make sure this product does not cause any harmful effects. Visit your health care specialist regularly.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Do NOT use this medicine in case of pregnancy! A single dose of this preparation may cause harm to the fetus. Never use it during the pregnancy! Women of a child-bearing potential should consult with their health care provider to make sure they use a correct method of a birth control in order not to get pregnant while taking Accutane. Women of child-bearing age must also agree in writing to use two specific forms of birth control and have pregnancy tests before, during, and after taking this medication.

A woman is considered to be of child-bearing potential unless she has had a total hysterectomy or has been in menopause for at least a year! Even women who have had their tubes tied are required to use birth control while taking this product. Both a primary (vasectomy of the male sexual partner; an IUD (intrauterine device); hormonal birth control patches, implants, injections, or vaginal ring; tubal ligation (tubes tied); or estrogen-containing birth control pills (not mini-pills), and a secondary form of birth control (a male latex condom plus spermicidal foam or gel; a vaginal sponge containing spermicide; a diaphragm plus spermicidal foam or gel; or a cervical cap plus spermicidal foam or gel) must be used together.

Do not use it while breast-feeding. Consult with your health care specialist. The extraction into the breast milk has not been evaluated.

This medicine is available only under iPLEDGE program. This means you have to register and sign documents (about birth control methods) before you may buy this product. Read the materials carefully! Purchase of this product outside of the iPLEDGE program is prohibited by the law. Purchasing this product on the Internet or from vendors outside of the United States may be dangerous.

You must have a negative pregnancy test 30 days before you begin the therapy with Accutane. You must also have a negative pregnancy each time your prescription is refilled, right after you take your last dose of Accutane, and again 30 days later. iPLEDGE program requires all of these tests.

You should not be treating with this product in case you have an allergy to Accutane or to Parabens.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider! In particular, tell your doctor if you use seizure medication such phenytoin (Dilantin); steroids (prednisone and others); a tetracycline antibiotic such as demeclocycline (Declomycin), minocycline (Minocin), doxycycline (Doryx, Vibramycin), or tetracycline (Brodspec, Sumycin, Tetracap).

Never use Accutane if you are pregnant or may get pregnant.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have heart disease, high cholesterol or triglycerides; a personal or family history of depression or mental illness; osteoporosis or other bone disorders; liver disease; diabetes; an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa); asthma; or if you have an allergy to any foods or drugs.

If you use any type of hormonal birth control, you should not take St. John's wort (herbal supplement) in order to prevent bleeding.

Discontinue the therapy and consult with your health care provider right away in case you had unprotected sex, if your period is late, if you quitted taking birth control pills, or in case you are suspicious about pregnancy.

You should not be using vitamin supplements containing vitamin A while you are taking Accutane.

Accutane Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. It may affect your vision!

This product may affect your bones. Avoid sports or activities that may lead to any injuries!

Do not donate blood while treating with this product! Do not donate blood for at least a month after stopping the therapy.

Do not use wax hair removers or have dermabrasion or laser skin treatments during the treatment and for at least 6 months after you stop the therapy. Scarring may result.

Avoid exposure to sunlight. Avoid sunlamps or tanning beds while going thru the therapy.

Contact your health care provider immediately in case of the following side effects: blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting;

depressed mood, changes in behavior, sleep problems, trouble concentrating, crying spells, aggression or agitation, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself; seizure (convulsions); loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); joint stiffness, bone pain or fracture; sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; severe diarrhea, rectal bleeding, black, bloody, or tarry stools; hearing problems, hearing loss, or ringing in your ears; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, purple spots under your skin, easy bruising or bleeding; or severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate.

Inform your doctor if you have less serious side effects such as joint pain, back pain; cracking or peeling skin, itching, rash, changes in your fingernails or toenails; feeling dizzy, drowsy, or nervous; dryness of the lips, mouth, nose, or skin; or discomfort with contact lenses.

Talk to your health care specialist if you experience any disturbing side effects.

Do not share your medicine with others, for whom it has not been prescribed.

Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you have an allergic reaction (closing of the throat; breathing discomfort; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; hives).
