Depakote Information

Depatkote pills are designed to assist the seizure (convulsion) control in certain kinds of epilepsy.

Make sure to tell your health care provider if you have kidney or liver disease; urea cycle disorder (UCD); an unusual or allergic reaction to valproic acid, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives; low blood proteins; blood disease; brain damage or disease.

Inform your doctor about pregnancy or breast-feeding.

Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor and leaflet information. Take valproic acid capsules orally. Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water. You may take this medicine with food or milk if the stomach irritation occurs. Do not use carbonated drinks for this reason.

Depatkote Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Valproic Acid, take your dose on the same day (if you take 1 dose per day). Skip the missed dose if you do not remember until the next day, and follow your regular schedule. Never take a double dose at once. Never exceed the dose. In case of overdose seek the medical attention right away. If you take more than one dose per day and miss a dose, take it if you remember within 6 hours. Remember that you have to take your doses with regular intervals.

Keep Depatkote safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 15 and 25 degrees C (59 and 77 degrees F) in a tightly closed cotainer. Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to inform your doctor about all the medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products you are treating with, as they may interact with Depakene. Inform your doctor about all your health states. Do not forget to tell if you are a smoker, frequent caffeine or alcohol user, or if you use illegal drugs. This may affect the therapy. Never start or quit a treatment without the consultation with health care provider.

Depatkote Side Effects

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. You may become drowsy, dizzy, or have blurred vision. Alcohol can add to the drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid using it. Sit up or stand slowly to avoid vertigo, especially in case you are an older patient.

You should talk to your doctor immediately in case of following side effects: blurred or double vision or uncontrollable eye movements; skin rash or itching; trembling of hands or arms;

unusual bleeding or bruising or red spots on the skin; unusual swelling of the arms or legs;

peeling, redness, blistering, or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; changes in the frequency or severity of seizures; irritability, agitation, restlessness, or any other changes in mood; yellowing of skin or eyes; unusual tiredness or weakness; stomach pain or cramps.

Some side effects do not usually require immediate doctor's attention. Talk to your health care provider if the following side effects become persistent or too bothersome - changes in menstrual periods; difficulty speaking; loss of bladder control; weight gain or loss; breast enlargement, unusual production of breast milk; diarrhea or constipation; increased sensitivity to sun or ultraviolet light; loss or increase in appetite; dizziness or drowsiness; irregular menstrual cycle; skin rash, itching; loss of hair or unusual growth of hair; nausea or vomiting; clumsiness or unsteadiness; headache.

If you are treating with Depatkote for treating epilepsy (seizures), you should not stop taking Valproic acid suddenly in order to prevent the risk of seizures. Wear a Medic Alert bracelet or necklace; keep an identification card with information regarding your health state, medications you are taking and contacts of your health care provider.

Do not change the dosage without consultation with your doctor.

Valproic acid may lead to such blood problems, as infection risk or slow betterment. Try to avoid injury to your teeth and gums.

Inform your doctor about the therapy before any dental or medical care.

Ask your doctor about the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
