Neurontin Information

Neurontin is designed in order to control partial seizures (convulsions) in adult patients with epilepsy. This medicine may also be prescribed to ease some types of nerve pain, or for other disorders of the nervous system.

Gabapentin has to be taken orally. Swallow capsules with water. You may take this medicine with milk or food in order to prevent a stomach irritation.

If your health care specialist advices you to break the 600 or 800 mg pill and take just a part of it, you should use the other part of the pill for your next dose. Throw away any unused part of the pill if you haven't used it within 3 days.

Consult with your health care specialist regarding the use in children; they have to be treated extremely cautiously!

Neurontin Safety Information

In case of missing a dose of Neurontin, take it as soon as you remember to do so. However, if it's about time to take your next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular schedule. Thus take the next dose when it's time for it. Never take a double dose at once. Do not exceed the dosage. In case of overdose seek the medical care immediately!

Keep Gabapentin safe from heat, moisture, and light. Store this product at room temperature, in scope of 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep this product out of the reach of children. Keep safe from pets.

Make sure to inform your health care provider in case you have an allergy to Neurontin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives; or in case you have kidney disease.

Consult with your health care specialist before the start of the therapy if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor also if you have plans for the pregnancy. You should discuss all the risks and benefits with your health care specialist.

Inform your health care provider if you take any other medications (even non-prescription!), herbal products, vitamins, minerals, or any supplements as they may interact with this therapy! Never start or stop any treatment without the approval of your health care provider! In particular, inform your health care provider if you take Сimetidine, Sevelamer, or antacids.

Tell your health care provider if you use tobacco, caffeine, alcohol or illegal drugs. It may affect the therapy.

Neurontin Side Effects

You should immediately contact a doctor in case you notice any signs of the following side effects: swelling of lips or tongue; difficulty breathing or tightening of the throat; rash. Consult with your health care provider right away in case of the following side effects, which may occur in children: hostile or aggressive behavior; mood changes or changes in behavior; hyperactivity; fever; difficulty concentrating.

The following side effects do not usually need to be reported immediately, but talk to your health care provider if they become continuous or bothersome: dizziness, drowsiness; pain, burning or tingling in the hands or feet; sore gums; difficulty walking or controlling muscle movements; weight gain; loss of appetite; back pain, joint aches and pains; tremor; sexual difficulty (impotence); indigestion, gas or heartburn; restlessness; slurred speech; constipation; nausea; dry mouth; skin itching.

Visit your health care specialist regularly in order to monitor your condition.

You should wear Medic Alert bracelet or necklace in case you are taking this medicine for seizures. Keep identification card with information about your condition, medications, and doctor. Consult with your doctor in case you do not notice improvement! Do not discontinue your therapy without the doctor's recommendation.

Do not drive, operate machinery or perform any activities, requiring high level of attention, before you find out your reaction to this medicine. Do not stand or sit up quickly in order to avoid staggers or fainting spells. You should not drink alcohol while treating with this medicine.

You may also experience blurred vision.

Inform a doctor about this therapy before receiving any medical care.
